Google created an app that detects car crashes

5 years 4 weeks ago #98 by PABlo
Why it matters: An app that is expected to be featured on the new Google Pixel 4 smartphone is designed to alert emergency personnel if it detects the user has been involved in a car accident. It is believed that the app leverages GPS data, an accelerometer and perhaps the device's microphone to determine if an accident might have occurred. The device then tries to contact the user via multiple notifications. If no response is rendered (perhaps because the user is unconscious or otherwise unable to reach the device), the app will call emergency personnel.
